HEALTHACCESS COMMUNITY CARE
HealthAccess Community Care provides a range of services to support governments and communities address the impact of medical and health workforce shortages in rural, remote and disadvantaged communities.
The Foundation has worked with 17 communities over the last 20 years servicing a population catchment of more than 300,000 people to support them to run and grow local health and social care services, and recruit doctors and nurses, in some of the most difficult to service locations. in Australia Today, every one of those communities continues to have on-site access to GPs and health care as a result of the work of the Foundation with the community.
Our goal as an organisation is to help governments to find innovative, practical and workable solutions to ensure health equity for all Australians, regardless of location. We provide consultancy services including conducting needs analysis, community facilitation, planning and program design. We also offer mentoring, backend management support and expertise to build local community capacity to operate community-led health services.
Recruiting a doctor or nurse is just the beginning of solving the problem of sustainability in rural and remote towns. Are you prepared for the day the doctor or nurse decides to leave, or if they are away for an extended period? How will the health and social services continue? How are you working with the Colleges to train the next generation of GPs in your community? Are your systems optimal for ensuring that you are claiming all legitimate revenue from Medicare? Are you applying for grants/tenders that may enhance service sustainability? Do you have clinical governance systems in place that meet strict accreditation requirements? Have you got the patient management systems and software, and clinical governance policies, to ensure compliance with ISO2700 or the Essential8 to guarantee the community that their information is a safe as it can be? How are services linked to other community services, and transport, to ensure reliable access to care in your town and when patients need to travel?
We have helped numerous communities to plan new models of care that are sustainable, effective and community-led.
HealthAccess Community Care provides the community with access to the expertise and management capability to fill gaps in local capacity. We see our job as helping the community build capacity locally, and over time transfer full management to community-control.
Unlike rural providers that are headquartered in the city, we are based in rural and remote Australia and 88% of our staff live in rural and remote towns. As a charity we work hard to ensure that ever dollar we generate goes back into ensuring continuity of care and health equity in rural, remote and disadvantaged communities around Australia. We work hard to ensure that as many dollars generated in your town stay in your town to create jobs and economic opportunities for everyone.
